Shared Spaces - Sacred Spaces
Saturday, June 14, 2025
Andrew “Pete” Sanchez Multi-Purpose Center
1616 Fats Domino Avenue
Tekrema Center for Art and Culture presents its annual conference celebrating Louisiana’s Black dance and music legacies - our shared and sacred spaces. This year, the conference will present works in progress that highlight the creativity and talents of our community through their choreographic, literary, and visual art works. The topics of creative development and research fall under Tekrema's theme, "Born in Blackness - Born In Love," and importantly, the development of art based on principles of excellence, truth, and courage. We work hard! We will recognize and honor our histories, communities, and you.
Tekrema will feature the work of its youth and young adult participants as well as our rising artist, Celeste Mercadel, who has become nationally recognized as a dancer and choreographer, established poet and community health activist Nikkisha Napoleon, and the release of Tekrema’s founder and director, Greer E. Mendy’s new literary work, Naked Appearances.
There’s more – Vyin DANSE! Greer will offer a masterclass at 10 AM. The focus will be on technique, choreography, and performance skills. The performance (combination) piece is the first movement of the finale suite in Tekrema Dance Theatre’s Fly With IT!
Let’s not forget Da Beat - Come Dance!
In service to our community, Dance Forever! 2025 activities are FREE!
